The sheriff's office said the person was found in medical distress and was pronounced dead at 6:32 a.m. after jail medical staff and Roanoke City Fire-EMS tried life-saving measures. Virginia State Police are investing the death, and the sheriff's office said the person's next of kin has been notified.
