A Black man was one of six men taken from guards holding them near Sunnyside, Texas, and killed by a mob, according to a report in the Austin Weekly Statesman in early May 1897. The mob took the six men from the guards and killed them, and their bodies were buried. The report says the mob may have let a seventh man, Will Williams, escape.
