The Austin Weekly Statesman reported that a Black man was one of six men a mob took from the guards holding them near Sunnyside, Texas, and killed. The paper reported the killings in early May 1897. The men were lynched, and their bodies were buried. The paper said the mob may have let a seventh man, Will Williams, escape.
