A Black man was one of six men whom a mob took from the guards holding them near Sunnyside, Texas, and killed, according to The Austin Weekly Statesman, which reported it in early May 1897. The paper said the six men were lynched and their bodies buried. It also reported that a seventh man, Will Williams, may have escaped the mob.
