Two Italian men who had been leaders in a cigarmakers' strike in Tampa were held in custody when, according to a brief 1910 newspaper dispatch, a mob took them from the officers holding them and hanged them. The dispatch was the only account cited, and it named the men's work in the strike as the most specific detail it gave about who they were. Their deaths were reported as a lynching from custody.
