Three Black men held in the jail at Henderson, Texas, were taken from the Rusk County jail by a mob in the early hours of Sunday, November 12, 1905. According to the Shiner Gazette, Sheriff Stone and his deputies stood at the jail door and asked the crowd to let the courts act, but about ten men overpowered the officers and broke the doors open with chisels and hammers after they could not get the keys. The men were hanged, and their bodies were later cut down and placed in a courthouse corridor.
