A person held in the Eagle Pass jail in Texas was killed after five people held there overpowered the jailers and escaped, according to The Weekly Democratic Statesman. The paper reported this on August 12, 1880. One of the group was recaptured, and a member of the sheriff's posse was killed by the escapees.
