In the early hours of Tuesday, April 24, 1906, two officers were taking a man to jail in Grosbeck, Texas, when a posse of citizens seized him from them. The posse held him until another man arrived, who ordered the crowd back and fired both barrels of a shotgun at him, killing him instantly. He was killed by a mob while in the custody of the officers and the jail they were taking him to.
