Five Black men were being held at a jail when a mob of about seventy-five men arrived in automobiles, broke in, and took them from the building. According to the jailer, as reported by The Dawson News, he refused to give up the keys, but the mob searched him, took the keys, unlocked the jail's steel vault and removed the five men.
