An Italian man held in the jail at Los Vegas, New Mexico, was taken from the jail on the night of Wednesday, June 4, 1879, by citizens who hanged him in the public square, according to a Santa Fe dispatch printed in the Memphis Daily Appeal. The dispatch said the body was still hanging the next morning.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A Santa Fe dispatch reports that citizens took him from the Los Vegas jail at night and hanged him in the public square.
