A person whose name has not been released died on May 27, 2022, while held at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, a Florida state prison. According to prosecutors, the person was in a fight with a cellmate who placed them in a chokehold and kept it on until they died. A Santa Rosa County jury later found the cellmate guilty of manslaughter in September 2026. The Florida Department of Corrections recorded the manner of death as homicide.
