A 41-year-old woman died at the Clarke County Jail in Athens, Georgia, on March 16, 2024. According to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office, staff found her unresponsive in her cell during an early-morning check, and jail staff and EMS tried to help before she was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office did not release her name while it worked to notify her family. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death, and no cause or manner of death has been stated.
