Nearly 100 boys held at the Dozier School, a Florida state reform school in Marianna, died there, according to researchers at the University of South Florida. Between 2012 and 2016, USF researchers excavating the school's Boot Hill burial ground found human remains in 55 unmarked graves. The researchers said death certificates were inconsistent and deaths were underreported, a pattern they said suggested administrators tried to hide how many children died. Hundreds of men who attended the school in the 1950s and 1960s have come forward describing abuse, and a bill was passed to compensate them.
