A person held at the Lake Region Correctional Facility in Devils Lake died at Altru Hospital in November 2026, after a medical emergency at the jail. Jail staff reported the emergency and began emergency medical care before EMS arrived, according to the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center director in a press release. The person's name, age, and the cause of death have not been released. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the circumstances of the death.
