A Black man held in the Walhalla, S.C., jail was taken from his cell by a mob and lynched, according to the record of the case. The mob acted openly, and the jailer was assaulted while trying to stop them. About fifty alleged participants were arrested and held under bond on lynching charges, and the Savannah Tribune called for their conviction.
