Name not reported
A newborn died in July 2016 after being born inside the Milwaukee County Jail to a woman held there while pregnant. Her name is Shade Swayzer, according to her attorney, Jason Jankowski, who says she was placed in a special needs unit despite a severe mental illness diagnosis and received prenatal vitamins only once. The attorney says she went into labor in her cell on July 14, that guards laughed when she said her water had broken, and that no one checked on her until six hours after the birth. The medical examiner has performed an autopsy but has not said whether the baby was alive or stillborn, and the sheriff's office had not responded to requests for comment.
