A 58-year-old man died in his cell at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, Santa Clara County, California, on March 19, 2020. According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a report of an ill person and he was pronounced dead at 5:38 a.m. The sheriff's office, district attorney's office and medical examiner's office are jointly investigating the death, including whether COVID-19 played a role. His name had not been released, and the cause and manner of death remained pending.
