A man in his late twenties died on February 6, 2022, while held at the Santa Clara County Jail in California. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said deputies found him unresponsive in his cell during a routine check, and that deputies performed CPR until county emergency medical staff arrived; he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The sheriff's office said its preliminary investigation found no signs of foul play, and a joint review with the district attorney and coroner is underway. The cause of death has not been determined.
