A man held at the Northern Branch Jail in Santa Maria, California, died there in May 2023, and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has not released his name until his family is contacted. The sheriff's office said he was found unresponsive and not breathing in his cell during rounds. It said the cause and manner of his death have not been determined, and that its criminal investigation bureau and the coroner's office are investigating.
