A 45-year-old man died on March 15, 2026, while being held at the San Diego Central Jail downtown. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office said he fainted in a day room and was found disoriented but responsive, then was taken to a clinic and by paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead after going into medical distress en route. The sheriff's office said it was withholding his name until family could be notified. Its Homicide Unit is investigating, and the medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
