Died in custody
Name not reported
A person whose name, age and sex are not given died in 2017 after being taken into the Lame Deer BIA jail on the Northern Cheyenne reservation in Montana, four days before their death, according to a Cruzan Group review. The review says the jail was overcrowded at the time. The FBI opened a criminal investigation. A BIA administrative inquiry finished about two and a half years later, and the Cruzan Group review says that inquiry lacked photographs, crime scene sketches, interviews with people held at the jail and toxicology reports.
