A man held alone in a cell at the Spokane County Jail died by hanging himself with bedsheets, according to Sgt. Joe Peterson of the Spokane Police Department's Major Crimes Unit. His death was discovered at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009, and the jail was placed on a five-hour lockdown. The Spokane Police Department took over the investigation, which police said was nearly complete.

Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide. Sgt. Joe Peterson of the Spokane Police Department's Major Crimes Unit said the man hanged himself with bedsheets in his cell.
