On October 9, 1903, during an outbreak at the penitentiary in Salt Lake, one prisoner died at locking-up time, when prisoners rushed guards, took their keys and tried to scale the walls. One guard was shot and another beaten, and three prisoners were wounded. Two prisoners escaped during the disturbance. The man who died was not named in the report.
