Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
On the morning of Saturday, August 19, 1876, a masked band of about forty men took a man from the Kentucky jail where he was being held and hanged him from a tree. The Daily Intelligencer's account says several young men were taken from the jail that morning, and it reports that the act was generally approved in the town. A mob took him from custody and killed him, and the person's name is not recorded in this account. The newspaper's approval claim is its own account and is attributed to it here.
