The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said this person was one of three people held at the California Institution for Men in Chino who died over two days in the week of May 4, 2020, at San Bernardino County hospitals. The department did not name them and cited medical privacy in declining to give more information. The deaths came during a COVID-19 outbreak at the prison, where confirmed infections had more than doubled to 332.
