A 61-year-old man died in his single-occupancy cell at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad, California, on the morning of April 22, 2017. Prison officials declared him dead at 9:53 a.m., less than an hour after another death at the prison that morning. His name had not been released, and little is said about who he was. The prison spokesman said he could not comment on whether the death was being investigated as a suicide.
