In August 1857, a mob near Little Falls, Minnesota, took one of three men from the sheriff and hanged him from a tree, according to a dispatch published in the Weekly Clarksville Chronicle on August 28, 1857. The dispatch gives no name, age, or other details about the man. It does not say how the sheriff responded to the mob.
