Woodrow, who was 74, died in September 2022 at a California state prison after more than 40 years in custody. CalMatters, in a February 2023 article about older people dying in state prisons, reported that staff treated the death as routine. The article's author argued that aging people held in state prisons are dying there while elderly parole rarely releases them.
