A man from Gadsden died on April 27, 2022, while held at the Etowah County Detention Center in Alabama. Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton said that during a nightly security check he was found in distress, and that jail medical staff and an ambulance were called. The Marshall County Sheriff's Office was brought in to investigate, which the sheriff said is standard when an outside agency reviews an internal case. His body was sent to the state forensic lab in Huntsville.
