According to the Holt County Sentinel, which reported it in February 1887, a mob came to a jail, took three men who were being held there from their cells, and killed them. The paper says the jail's guards knew the mob was coming, were in an upper room overlooking the jail yard, offered no resistance, and gave no warning to the authorities.
