A mob took this Black man from the jail in Memphis and shot him to death, one of three people killed that way the morning after officers were shot in an incident involving them. A Grand Rapids Herald editorial published March 10, 1892, describes the killings as racially motivated mob violence and calls them murder. The editorial does not name any of the three people. It does not say whether the jailer or sheriff resisted the mob, gave up the keys or handed the men over.
