A man held at the Presque Isle County jail in Michigan hanged himself in his cell on March 26, 2024, and died of his injuries at a hospital in Alpena on April 5. Sheriff Joe Brewbaker asked the Michigan Sheriffs' Association to investigate, and that association's report, which the sheriff described, concluded on April 29 that jail staff followed policy and did not contribute to the death.
