Human remains found in July 2016 during a backyard landscaping project at 63 Fitch Ave. in Auburn were identified by New York state officials as belonging to people who died in custody at Auburn Correctional Facility and were buried before 1910. The remains were found in a state burial plot later sold to private owners. The people are unidentified, and the state's Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said it would take control of the remains and rebury them at the Marcy Correctional Facility cemetery.
