A Black man held in the jail at Amelia Court House, Virginia, was killed on September 14, 1893, after being taken from the jail. A mob of about twenty-five people broke into the jail after midnight, took him out, and hanged him from a tree. The jail held him when the mob took him, and the man was killed by the mob.
