Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
Three Black people were held in the jail at Winna, Mississippi, when a mob broke in, took them out and killed them, according to a brief New-York Tribune item published August 2, 1901. The item gives no names, ages or sexes for the three, so they are described here only by their number. The killings were carried out by the mob, and the item does not say whether the jailer or sheriff resisted, gave up the keys or handed the three over.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
Reported by: New-York Tribune (reporters).
