Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
A man whose name the 1879 report does not give was held in a county jail when a mob took him out and killed him. According to The Sun, the mob carried him by rail and hanged him near the county courthouse. Before they were hanged, he and another man left letters with the sheriff, and the paper describes him as somewhat older than the other man. The account is partly garbled, and it presents the men's guilt as settled.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
