Mr. Cox was one of two brothers whom the New York Age, in an editorial by T. Thomas Fortune, described as leaders in the Louisiana sugar strike and in labor organizations. According to the editorial, a mob took him from a Louisiana jail and shot him to death, and his brother was also taken and shot. The editorial says the killing grew out of the sugar strikes. It argues that the mob had no right to take the men from the custody of the law and that the brothers were entitled to a fair trial.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The New York Age editorial says a group of white men took one of the Cox brothers from a Louisiana jail and shot him to death.

Reported by: The New York Age editorial (T. Thomas Fortune) (reporters).
