A 26-year-old man from Mamaroneck died at the Westchester County jail in February 2017. A New York State Commission of Correction report, obtained by The Journal News through a records request, says he killed himself using bed sheets. The report found that a correction officer did not carry out the required personal visual observation of him about half an hour before he was found. According to the account, the county took no further action because the death was ruled a suicide.
