A 58-year-old man held at the Columbia County Jail in Portage, Wisconsin, died on July 7, 2026. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said deputies found him unresponsive in his bed during a wellbeing check early that morning and that he appeared to have suffered a medical event while asleep. A Marquette County Sheriff's Office detective is overseeing the investigation.
