A man held at the Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility in Muskegon died on August 28, 2021. The Michigan Department of Corrections said two other people held there attacked him in his cell with a weapon, and that he left the cell to seek medical help and was pronounced dead about an hour later at a local hospital. Officials said the two men believed responsible were placed in segregation and later transferred to a maximum-security facility.
