A Black man whose name was not recorded was in the custody of a guard near Fairview when a mob took him and lynched him on May 7, 1880. The Lancaster Daily Intelligencer reported the killing in its May 10, 1880 edition. The newspaper account describes the lynching as the central event and gives no further details about the man.
