A 31-year-old man held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in Wilkes-Barre was found unresponsive in his cell on the night of Sunday, July 31, 2022. Correctional officers and facility medical staff gave life-sustaining measures before EMS took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Mark Rockovich, director of correctional services for the Luzerne County Division of Corrections, said the District Attorney's Office was notified and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
