According to a count released by the Iowa Department of Corrections and reported by Iowa Capital Dispatch on February 1, 2021, a person held at Clarinda Correctional Facility died of COVID-19. The same count listed a separate COVID-19 death of a person held at the Iowa State Penitentiary. The department's count is the only source for both deaths, which it gave without a name, age, sex or date for either person.
