A newborn died on September 27, 2021, after being born prematurely at Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. The baby's mother had been housed at the Orange County Intake and Release Center, which is where she was held when she went into labor. Orange County sheriff's officials said they pronounced the child dead around noon. The Orange County District Attorney's Office will investigate the death, and the sheriff's office will complete an in-custody death review.
