Trelynn Wormley
Trelynn Wormley, 23, died on July 20, 2022, while held in the Green Bay unit of the Tarrant County Jail in Texas. His mother, Cassandra Johnson, says he had a history of mental illness and that she learned of his death from the medical examiner rather than from the jail. Other people held in the unit alerted detention officers that he was unresponsive in his cell, and he died at John Peter Smith Hospital, according to the sheriff's office, which says an investigation is underway. The medical examiner's office determined he died of fentanyl poisoning, and the sheriff's office has accused a contract employee of smuggling drugs into the unit but has not said it has linked that person to his death. In 2026, Johnson said she is still waiting for answers about how the drugs reached him.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose. The Tarrant County medical examiner's office says he died of fentanyl poisoning, and one article reports that a commissary worker smuggled in the drugs.
Reported by: Tarrant County medical examiner's office (medical examiner or coroner); news reporting on the death.
