Tony Marinaccio
Tony Marinaccio, 53, was held at the Nassau County Correctional Center in May 2015 and told jail medical staff he had chest pains. A former Armor nurse says he was not given an EKG and was returned to his cell, and about an hour later he was found face down; he was pronounced dead at a hospital. His family says he had given staff medical records showing a pre-existing heart condition, and they have filed a notice of claim and a lawsuit against Armor Correctional Health and Nassau County. His sister, Gloria Gazzola, said, "Everybody's medical needs should be attended to properly."
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). A former Armor nurse says Marinaccio, who had chest pains, was not given an EKG and was returned to his cell before he was found face down; his family's lawsuit says jail medical staff failed to treat his known heart condition, and the family disputes the official account of his death.
Reported by: former Armor nurse (witnesses); Marinaccio family, through their lawyer Harry Demiris and a lawsuit (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: His family filed a notice of claim and sued Armor Correctional Health and Nassau County over his death in the Nassau County Correctional Center, and no settlement or award amount has been reported.
