Tommy McCullough
Tommy McCullough, 35, was held at the Goree Unit in Huntsville, Texas, where he worked outdoors mowing fields during a record heat wave in June 2023. He collapsed by midday on June 23 and died. His eldest sister, Kristie Williams, said he looked healthy when she last visited and had so much life ahead of him and wanted to do many things. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said he died of cardiac arrest and that the death is under investigation, while family and advocates blame the heat and conditions inside the prison.
