Tom Konkey
Tom Konkey was an older man who had lived in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, and the Memphis Daily Appeal described him as well liked and as getting along well with people of both races in his neighborhood. He left a family to mourn him. On July 10, 1880, Deputy Sheriff J. Jones and two other officers were taking him and another man on horseback toward Landing in Tunica County, Mississippi. Some time after midnight, a dozen or more masked men came out of the woods, took both men from the officers, and killed them near the road about six miles from Austin.
