Titus Peters
Titus Peters, 42, of Bennington, Vermont, died on January 29, 2026, while held at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Mississippi, a private prison housing people in the custody of Vermont's Department of Corrections. The department said staff found him unresponsive in his cell around midday and that emergency medical services pronounced him dead on arrival. Internal emails reported by Vermont Public say he was in segregation at the time, and that a delayed move out of segregation was linked to a prison lockdown. The department has not released a cause of death, which remains pending a final autopsy, and its investigative unit will review the death.
