Tina Ferri

53 years old · died January 15, 2018 · Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, Wilsonville, Oregon

Tina Ferri, 53, was held at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, Oregon, when she fell ill with influenza during a flu outbreak there in January 2018. Her daughter, Mistina Ferri, says she was not treated in time, that she developed pneumonia and a staph infection, and that she was taken to a hospital in Tualatin, where she died on January 15, 2018. The family's lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Corrections alleges the prison failed to treat her, and her medical records are said to show she coughed up blood for three days before being sent to hospital by ambulance. The Department of Corrections said it cannot comment on pending litigation and that it had confirmed the outbreak and offered flu shot request forms.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The Oregon Department of Corrections and the court documents say influenza led to pneumonia, a staph infection and sepsis, while her daughter's wrongful death lawsuit says the prison failed to treat her in time.

Reported by: Oregon Department of Corrections (the agency that held her); daughter Mistina Ferri (family or their lawyers); lawyer Michael Fuller (family or their lawyers); treating doctor in court documents.

Lawsuit: Her daughter sued the Oregon Department of Corrections in a wrongful death lawsuit seeking $7.5 million, and the department has not commented on the pending litigation.
